D for Doors

We've made it to day 4 of the A to Z journey and the fun is just getting started.
Today let's talk about Doors. They are a major part of everyone's' home, they mark off spaces, they give us privacy and they come with so many different options.

It's something that we often take for granted. They are changed or replaced or left behind when everything else in an older house is removed. When people are tearing down old houses, they are now taking out those old solid doors and giving them a new life.

People talk about if a wall could talk, how about a door. Can you imagine the things they've seen. It's the first thing we touch when we come home, it's what we slam when we're mad, how about all of the time spent standing at them at the end of dates, not yet ready to go in. We decorate them for the seasons and we paint them happy colors to livin' up the place and to make our's stand out from the rest. When I was  in high school my mom painted ours RED and it was the talk of the bus, it's still red by the way and it's been a while, I think she is attached to it.

So check out yard sales, restore sales and it's even become a thing for people to go in and dismantle old houses for the salvage value of items like old ornate doors. And if they have a bit of dings or measurement lines left, that is an added value, showing the life lived before.

Here's a couple of ideas for how to use your vintage door inside and out!

Let's start out with simple- How about as just a display piece? Add some other items and see how charming it can be.

Or go all the way and turn them into storage and seating for your mudroom or entry way.

Who knew an old door could be so spectacular 4 the love of wood did

And then there is my favorite- As head boards. I picked mine up at a thrift store for 15.00!
My personal find..15.00 ya'll! (Ignore if you can all of the other projects..lol)

Soon I'll be upcycling it to look Something like this!

Great information on how to at Hometalk.com.
Add a bit of trim, add some legs to get to the right height and paint or distress. Personally I'm leaving the hardware on for a bit more personality.

I bet you'll never look at an old door the same way again!

Thanks for stopping by and be sure to check out all of the great blogs participating in the A to Z Challenge in April. I'll be working on a E for tomorrows post!

    1. I'm hoping to have one again! The ideas are just piling up in my mind, maybe you could add a piece here or there and it wouldn't look so out of place!
