Update: Year of Project Year 6 week 2

I missed week one already! But not for trying, the canning got a bit in the way over the Holiday weekend!

I might have been a bit over zealous when I went to the farmers market, since I picked up about 100 lbs in peaches.  The late frost took out of early peach blooms and I didn't want to miss out on peach jam this year. We can Jams for sale so the amount isn't really that crazy but all at once put me a bit behind. Of course the cucumbers are on too as well as blueberries so I was stuck in the kitchen the majority of my time off.
Here are just a few fruits of my labor;

SO now on to Crochet!
I did manage to work on a couple of items over the last couple of weeks, I haven't gotten the list updated but I'm hoping to have that done this week. And I'm hoping to be able to stick to it this year!

This is the one picture that I took last week when I was planning on getting a post out and a bit of an update it on it also.

This is last week
Today! Squares are joined and it's well on it's way to being the center of a new baby blanket

Progress on the Owl Cocoon, Cocoon parts completed, on to Owl parts next. It has a breast piece that is crocodile stitches, wings and eyes to go. It will be my first go round with the crocodile stitch so wish me luck!

Here's my cardigan, I had hoped it would be a Spring Cardigan but I think it's going to end up as a fall accessory. But that works too. The back and one side are complete. Work has started on the second side and that leaves sleeves. First garment for adults and depending on how it goes will determine if there are more in the future.

No progress on other items but I made a deal with myself, no new starts until one of these are finished. Just a bit of incentive to get a finish..

    1. Thanks! It is a lot of canning but I enjoy it most of the time. We can for us, friends and also to sell. This is one of the four baby blankets I'm doing for friends this summer. Hopefully they will be happy with it also.

  2. Can't wait to see your owl cocoon finished. And seeing all that canning reminds me that it is almost time to make mustard pickles. ;)

  3. That's so cool how you know how to can. The baby cocoon is great as it's so cute to imagine a wee one nestled in it.

    1. I grew up next door to my grand parents who farmed so it was just a part of everyday life, canning and such but It's a still I'm glad I learned. Home grown tastes so much better. i love the idea of cocoons, I used a blanket to wrap mine in but this is so much cuter.

  4. OOoooo peach jam. Yum. I want to learn how to can more. I have only made a few small batches of jam. I made some wild rose petal jam, which was way too hard on my achy hands, and I made some orange rhubarb jam, which was very good. I love the colors you're using in your squares. I love those colors and use them a lot.

    1. It's peach and blueberry/blackberry season right now so we have a bunch going on. Pealing all those small fruits about knocked me out for the count but I'll be happy come winter. We have Rhubarb and I love the idea of orange rhubarb, I'll have to keep that in mind!
It's for a baby but I like these colors because i feel like they will grow with her and not be so babyish when she's older. And the parents aren't into the "baby colors" either.

  5. I love peach jam, I always find it hard it get to set, do you use pectin? Love the colours in your baby blanket and that owl cocoon sound lovely, look forward to seeing it.

    1. We do use pectin, Dutch Gel Lite is what we use. We buy it in bulk and it hardly needs any sugar. I use extra to get a firm set. I have problems with peach setting too. I'm ready to see the end of the cocoon too, I've promised myself that I can't start anything else until it's done...

    1. Thanks, I love these colors and the mom was looking for something not quite so babyish. I love that traditional baby colors are making way for other fun colors. I hope to get the crocodile stitch started soon!

  8. I love the color yarn you're using to make that Owl Cocoon. Can't wait to see it all put together. How wonderfully productive you've been. I haven't canned in years, but your pictures of all those wonderful jars sure brings back memories.

    1. Thanks, The other colors are a hot pink and a grey. I love using colors that aren't typical "baby" colors.
I enjoy being busy and I was lucky enough to grow up with a crafty and DIY type family.

  9. I did that a few years ago with the peaches but got ahead of myself since I only had 1 working burner on my stove....I did it but it wasn't easy! LOL! I love canning or rather the results. Especially looking at in in the middle of winter and knowing you have everything you need without going to the store...mostly! LOL! Congrats to you!
    Where do you live btw?
I think you are pretty amazing with all your canning AND crocheting too! Such pretty projects. I can't wait to see the cardigan...I'm getting to that stage where I want some garments either knitted or crocheted or both. The little cocoon is going to be darling and I have not tried the crocodile stitch yet but I've seen it out there and it is really neat/cool looking. The baby blanket is going to be just precious. Thanks for posting whatever you have we all love seeing it!

    1. It seems like we are running at least 11 months out of the year for something in the garden but we do get to enjoy it off season! We are in Eastern NC we have a fairly mild climate but it seems like only two seasons, Winter and Summer..lol
Thanks for stopping by and I hope to have some new items to share soon. I've been wanting to branch out into sweaters and I want to learn to knit also. But we'll see how this one goes before I make plans on others..lol

  15. We don't have enough space for proper canning/jarring so we only do a batch or two of pickles every year. I want to learn to make jams and pickle other things.....we just need a place to store all the jars. ::sigh::
